London Meed Race for Life

29th June 2018

One Friday 29th May, London Meed Primary School held a ‘Race for Life’.  We challenged children, staff and children to aim to run 15 laps of the school field during the day because this is the equivalent of a 5k run.

Our Head teacher commented that “It was fantastic to see our pupil community wearing pink accessories with their PE kit in celebration assembly at the start of the day, but it was even better to see the determination and resilience shown by pupils throughout the day.  Some of our children chose to spend their lunch time adding to their total and many children ran 10k during the course of the day.”

Nikki Palethorpe, Year Five teacher, organised the event, timetabling all classes in two separate sessions.  “I am really humbled by the generosity of parents and staff for supporting the event so strongly.  Our ‘JustGiving page https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/london-meed-cp-school is open until Friday 13th July and shows £962.00 raised so far, we also took £425 in cash donations which will be donated in whole to charity along with the sponsorship money that is going directly to raceforlife.org.  I wanted to get the school involved because Cancer Research benefits friends and families of staff and children.”
