London Meed Extra-Curricular Activities

London Meed’s extra-curricular activities and clubs are flourishing with approximately 90% of KS2 children attending at least one. These activities are often ‘age related’ and as the children progress through the school more choices are available. A range of clubs are on offer taking into account children’s abilities and interests, all of them helping to motivate the pupils into leading healthy and challenging lifestyles in an environment where they are made to feel they can succeed.

Some are run privately and require payment but many are run by staff in their own time at no extra cost to parents. The following is a typical list of activities available;

General: Chess

Sport: Cricket, Football, Netball, Rubgy, Karate, Cross Country, Tennis, Athletics, Basketball

Arts: Drama, Band, Choir, Recorder, Flute, Drums, Clarinet, Trumpet, Piano, Violin, Keyboard, Guitar

Horsham Music Services

West Sussex Music Service
 (Horsham and Haywards Heath) Centres.

Does your child play a musical instrument or sing?

Over 500 young musicians from schools in the area attend the West Sussex Music Service (WSMS) Horsham and Haywards Heath Music Centres each week during term time. We offer 30 ensemble opportunities each week, all staffed by professional musicians from West Sussex Music Service.

WSMS offers an ever-increasing range of musical and performance opportunities. There are opportunities for string players, guitarists,brass, wind, percussionand singers.

Even if your child does not yet have singing or instrumental lessons, he/she is welcome to join Horsham Junior Choir or Horsham Elementary Percussion Ensemble. These ‘ensemble’ activities cannot replace the tuition offered in small groups as the latter is necessary to learn technique and other musical skills, but playing with ensembles and larger groups can be the source of a lifetime of musical fulfilment. Meeting new friends with a common interest is another benefit.

For more details of fees and types of ensembles/bands/orchestras available and to book a place for your child, please email music@westsussex.gov.uk or phone 01243 642361. To see the ensembles available you can also visit the website http:wsgfl.westsussex.gov.uk/youthmusic
